Method’s Limited Edition Subtle + Serene Collection Will Help You Relax This Spring

* I did receive products from Method for this post however, as always, all opinions are my own.

With another rainy April weekend in the books, I’m ready for those May flowers to start blooming and for the sun to come out. Spring has undeniably arrived and the weather has (finally!) warmed enough enough for me to justify stuffing my winter coat at the bottom of my closet, where I hopefully won’t run into it again until next year.

With spring has come the subtle + serene collection from Method. If you’re a seasonal decorator and healthy home product junkie like me, then get ready to celebrate because Method’s latest collection is both pretty and created with all-natural eco-friendly ingredients.

Method products are designed for maximum sustainability with a mission to create products that are natural and not harmful to humans or the environment. Each of the subtle + serene nature-inspired scents will help you cleanse and relax, knowing that you’re using something that’s good for you.

The calming fragrances were designed in bottles inspired by a minimalist decor approach. The hand wash collection is available in the following scents; ocean waves, chamomile lavender, white rose and ginger tea. Each scent is accentuated with essential oils and naturally derived ingredients.

The collection is available in bulk on Amazon and individually at Target. The products come in both foaming and gel formats—they are limited edition, so be sure to get them before they’re sold out! x

If you’re looking for an all-natural organic cleaner, this buzzy brand has what you’re looking for. And if you want to start making the switch to clean beauty, trying these all-natural shampoos and conditioners is a great place to start.

The Best Of This Week’s Ulta Beauty Sale

Although it doesn’t feel like it, spring is *~officially~* here! I spent the weekend spring cleaning my closet (and room) and got rid of a ton of stuff that I just don’t wear or use anymore. Apps like Poshmark make this especially easy because you can actually just add your clothes to a virtual “closet” and other people will buy them! It’s super easy to do and has been helping me eliminate some of my closet clutter! (If you want to shop my Poshmark closet, you can do that here!)

Spring cleaning doesn’t have to be limited to just a physical cleanse (like the Whole 30 diet I’ve been doing) or actually breaking out the Swiffer and doing a thorough mopping of your apartment. Most beauty products actually expire WAY sooner than we realize (especially if you use more organic and natural products!) So checking the dates and estimating when you started using them is super helpful (and healthy) too.

Ulta sells beauty products that are top quality and really affordable. Their biggest beauty sale of the year is the perfect time to stock up on your favorite products and try some new ones as well. Their sale switches up every day, but I’m sharing the best steals below!

Keep reading to score some of our favorite products for less than half the original price!

Whether you have dry skin or are trying to prevent wrinkles, coconut oil is the ingredient for you. This travel kit includes varieties for healing, moisturizing, anti-aging, soothing and neutralizing oily skin. Each oil has an essential oil infusion – from chamomile to ylang ylang, which smells amazing when mixed with the coconut.

March 28: Origins Checks & Balances Face Wash, $11

This foamy face wash is meant to balance out dry and oily skin. Apply in the mornings and while you shower to bring forward a clear complexion.

March 29: Laura Geller, Baked Blush-n-Brighten, $14

March 30: St. Tropez Gradual Tan Classic Everyday Body Lotion, $12.50

The best part about gradual tanners is that you get a more natural end result than a spray tan and you don’t have to worry about streaks. This lotion is meant to moisturize and tan, making it an everyday essential that will eventually bring out a healthy glow.

March 31: Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water, $16

If you’ve ever taken the time to apply a masterpiece of makeup to your face before work, simply to find out that it smudged and faded by the time you actually arrived, this primer is going to be your new BFF. It helps your makeup stay intact for hours, ensuring that your hard work doesn’t go to waste.

April 1: Mario Badescu Super Collagen Mask, $9

From collagen “granola” bars to collagen peptides, this is definitely one of the buzziest wellness words of the year, and for good reason! Collagen boosts the elasticity of your skin and with this firming mask it’ll help you say “bye bye” to wrinkles.

April 2: Shiseido Eyelash Curler, $10

Let those lashes stand-out, ladies! And do it with an eyelash curler that you trust. We’ve heard too many horror stories of people losing lashes to a low-quality curler!

3 Natural Volumizing Shampoos and Conditioners That Will Lift Your Roots

Natural and organic beauty products are most certainly trending and hopefully, becoming the new norm. You might be asking yourself what the big deal is about buying natural products and obsessing over ingredient lists. The truth is, it very much could positively impact your overall health. When it comes to beauty products, including hair care and skin care, your skin and scalp has the ability to absorb what you’re physically putting onto your body. This impacts your system just as much as what you eat.

There are some ingredients used to create top beauty brand products that can disrupt your hormones, impair fertility, irritate the skin, damage your liver and kidneys and sensitize your skin to sunlight – among so many other side effects. Most of the time, we don’t think to trace these changes in our bodies to what we’re putting on them, but it’s clear that the time has come that we should.

So if you’re running low on shampoo and conditioner, hold off on sprinting to the drug store and check out the options below. You can find them on Amazon and at Ulta and they’re totally worth the shipping. x

Keep reading to see the top three all natural and organic volumizing shampoo and conditioners.

1. Ola Tropical Apothecary Hydrating Coconut Shampoo and Conditioner

You might actually recognize the name by now, because OTA products are some of my favorites and I love sharing them with you all! This shampoo and conditioner treatment is certified organic, locally harvested, uses sustainably grown ingredients, is naturally active and is wildcrafted in Hawaii. Both the shampoo and conditioner are plant based (as are all OTA products) and come in my favorite scent – coconut!

If you are struggling with dry hair that is starting to split and break at the ends, this hair care system is going to be a huge help. You can purchase Ola Tropical Apothecary’s Coconut Shampoo and Conditioner, here.

2. Mop Lemongrass Volume Shampoo

With natural ingredients such as lemongrass, chamomile and honey, your hair is going to thank you for this volumizing nourishment. There are only five ingredients in the product and all are recognizable and readable – which is the way it should be! This shampoo is also plant based and is naturally infused with fruit, vegetable and herb botanicals.

If you have fine hair and find that other shampoos dry your hair out or weigh it down, MOP’s formula will help give your hair some body while thoroughly cleansing it as well. You can purchase MOP Lemongrass Volume Shampoo, here.

3. Abba Volume Shampoo and Conditioner

This shampoo and conditioner system is totally vegan, gluten-free and sulfate free. It’s made of a ProQuinoa Complex (yes, you read that right!) which means that it is made from quinoa, deglutinated barley and soy – all ingredients that moisturize your hair while strengthening each strand. Instead of adding illegible long-worded ingredients, ABBA created their formula using the natural perks of different plant based ingredients – such as using lemongrass to create volume and grapefruit to condition hair without creating build up. By default, their products smell amazing too!

The shampoo and conditioner system is meant for all hair types. It’s super lightweight and is meant to improve fullness and shine. You can purchase ABBA Volume Shampoo and Conditioner, here.

New York Fashion Week Hair How To: Zang Toi x Macadamia Professional

Zang Toi’s Fall/Winter 2017 runway show featured a truly captivating collection. If you follow me on Instagram you saw that I was lucky enough to be backstage before the show watching hair stylists and makeup artists prep the brigade of gorgeous models. Their elegant hair style was created by lead stylist Eiji Yamane, using Macadamia Professional products.

Being backstage at NYFW is an AMAZING experience. It was so exciting to see how much work and how many people go into putting together a less-than one hour show. So many creative and insanely talented people are huddled together in a back room doing what they do best. It was such an inspiring and fast-paced environment, that makes me impatient for next season’s shows. 😉

The “French Twist Chignon” hairstyle was truly beautiful, yet simple enough that it did not take away from House of Toi’s FW’17 collection. It’s the perfect look to do before work or a date and once you get the hang of it (and don’t need to go back and perfect it before something as high profile as say, a fashion show) it really won’t take too long.

Eiji Yamane was generous enough to share his step-by-step process on how to get the look at home. I’ll be sharing more fashion week reflections next week, including outfits from Zang Toi’s to-die-for FW’17 collection… which is conveniently in literally ALL my favorite colors and textures. x

“French Twist Chignon” Lead Stylist Eiji Yamane Shares His Fashion Week Hair How-To:

1. Evenly distribute Macadamia Professional Blow Dry Lotion, section hair and blow dry.

2.Create a central part and pull back into a low ponytail at the nape of the neck – pulling tightly to ensure the top of the head is smooth and sleek

3. Separate ponytail into three sections and braid all the way through the length of the ponytail. Secure ends with a hair elastic.

4. Fold new braid in half. After you tucked the braid up, pin it into place with the bobby pins.

5. Using a hair extension matching the color of hair, take one section and clip it under the braid and curling up, create a large loop wrapping around to the right side of the braid.  Secure with bobby pins.

6. Repeat step 5 at the top section and middle section to create a loose, “crescent” chignon, ensuring the inside braid is completely covered.

7. Spray with Macadamia Professional Style Lock Strong Hold Hairspray to lock in place.

8. Using a comb, gently smooth out all hair that is pulled back one last time and apply Macadamia Professional Whipped Detailing Cream to tame any flyaways.

9. To complete the look, liberally spray Macadamia Professional Weightless Moisture Dry Oil Micro Mist for added shine and luster.

10 Best Face Masks To Splurge On This Galentine’s Day

When I really need a break during a hectic week (basically every week) I take a few minutes for myself. My go-to beauty treatment is a face mask. The idea behind this is simple, with a whole lot of colorful goop on my face I’m pretty limited as to what I can do. By putting on the mask for 5-15 minutes, I give myself that time to hangout by myself, break apart my day, get a sense of what I’ve accomplished and what I have left to do, and just let myself breathe and remember that spoiling myself is indeed important.

These next few weeks are the perfect time to get together with your best friends and celebrate yourselves and your friendship together. One of my favorite girls night and Galentine’s Day activities is doing face masks! I’ve pulled some of my personal favorite masks from a really wide price range (think $10-125!) and I’m so excited to share them with you all.

Adapt Your Skincare Routine: The Beauty Update You Need To Be Aware Of This Winter

Especially now that the leaves have started changing colors and are falling to the ground, it has become a reality that summer has passed and the colder months are on their way.

This shift in seasons is one that our bodies do not take lightly. The change in weather causes people to suffer from allergies, Seasonal Affective Disorder, also known as S.A.D., and other strains of seasonal illness. Physically, the seasonal shift takes a toll on our wellbeing as well. During the colder months people tend to exercise less and eat more, delving into comfort food cravings at an increasing rate. Not only does this take a toll on our wellbeing, but also on our skin.

Lack of exercise and a non-structured diet, combined with the harshness of the colder weather equates to increased sick days and unhealthy skin. Sue Magou, consultant dermatologist told The Telegraph, “there is less moisture in the air and what natural oil you do have in your skin can be blown away by the wind. Once inside, central heating is also very drying.”

Fortunately, there are ways that you can tackle the issue of keeping your skin healthy this season that benefit your diet as well. Eating healthily and munching on certain foods can actually be beneficial to both your body and skin during these next few months.

During the colder months, your skin needs some extra pampering. According to the American Skin Association, “dry skin, or Xerosis, often worsens in the winter, when several factors contribute to skin dryness: low temperature and low humidity caused decreased amounts of water in the stratum corneum.”

It is because of the lack of moisture that makes awareness of proper skincare important during these colder months. “Your skin will end up being dull and dry in the fall and winter if you don’t make an effort to keep it from being that way,” explains Katherine Goldman, celebrity esthetician/waxologist. “We help people have a great glow to their skin all year and help keep their skin both looking and feeling great all winter long. With a little bit of effort, anyone can do it.”

One natural skincare trick that helps keep your skin hydrated actually involves snacking. According to Dr. Christopher Calapi, a board certified dermatologist and doctor in family and anti-aging medicine, “beauty really does come from within.” Dr. Calapi suggests munching on certain foods in order to help preserve different elements of a healthy derma, or skin.

One of the most common skin problems people find during the colder months is dehydration. Dr. Calapi suggests adding more honey into your diet, “honey is a natural humectant, meaning it attracts water. When it comes to your skin, consuming honey helps draw water from the mineral tissues to the surface of the skin, keeping it moisturized, supple and flake-free.”

Another simple trick is to check what type of skincare products you are using in the fall and winter. According to New York-based dermatologist, David Bank, “The biggest battle in winter versus summer is skin getting dried out and losing its luster, so you want to think about switching out oil-fighting cleansers, toners, moisturizers and treatments such as masks or peels, in favor of hydration-boosting products.”

This is something that is also recommended by the Saint Louis University Physicians Group. In a SLU Journal, dermatologist and associate professor of dermatology, Nicole Burkemper, M.D., explains that we should “use a moisturizer that contains ceramides – the main component of the natural skin barrier – it can be especially helpful in the dry months.”

Using a skin moisturizer is incredibly important to encourage healthy skin. GLAMOUR UK Beauty Director, Alessandra Steinherr explains, “the function of moisturizer is to reinforce the skin’s barrier. This matters because it keeps moisture in the skin, resulting in a fresh, dewy complexion. But just as importantly it prevents bacterias and irritants from penetrating into the skin.”

Once you have found the perfect moisturizer to aid your skin, the next step will be to switch up your skincare routine. The New York Presbyterian Hospital suggests “immediately apply moisturizers after bathing or showering. While your skin is still wet it will better trap and absorb moisture.” After a quick warm shower – be careful, according to the British Skin Foundation, “a long hot bath can strip away much needed natural oil from the skin. Try and shorten the length of time and remember to keep the temperature warm, not hot” – get ready for bed a bit earlier than usual schedule.

According to Dr. Kaleroy Papantoniou, a board certified NYC dermatologist, “During sleep we heal, restore and eliminate toxins from the skin. If sleep is compromised, so is the body’s ability to carry out these essential skin functions.” Sleep is so important to all aspects of your physical and emotional health, in addition to it being an essential part of your skincare regimen. Papantoniou explains, “During the first three hours of sleep your body will start producing the human growth hormone from the pituitary gland. As we age, this hormone is necessary for the maintenance of youthful and radiant skin.  Without this hormone release, skin is not repaired from daily damage and thus induces the aging process.”

Have trouble sleeping? According to Dr. Calapai, the answer is in a glass of tart cherry juice. “Who knew that this tangy drink naturally contains melatonin? Well, it does and melatonin promotes sleep,” he explains.

As you start breaking out your sweaters and fuzzy socks – all the fuzzy socks – remember to follow these tips and revamp your skincare regimen in a way that adapts to the season. Stock up on moisturizer and healthy foods, and remember to try to start going to bed a little bit earlier. Once you get into this routine, you’ll reap the benefits of using sleep and moisturizer as your protective armor this season.

Stay tuned for an upcoming roundup of the best new cold weather skincare products!

Getting Glammed For New York Fashion Week

The six degrees of separation never ceases to amaze me. The theory was actually proposed by a Hungarian writer (how fitting!!) Frigyes Karinthy in 1929. It basically says that anyone on the planet can be connected to another person on the planet through a chain of acquaintances that is no larger than five. I’ve become particularly interested in this theory since the start of my time living and going to school in NYC. In the last three years, I have for sure made some pretty amazing acquaintances.

I’ve met Ariana Grande’s life coach, Madonna’s personal trainer, Jennifer Garner’s mom and cousin (and Jennifer herself!), Bill Murray, Orlando Bloom, Jennifer Lopez, Alysia Reiner, Melissa Joan Hart, Amber Sabathia… my list can go on and on – and now it has grown again! In a chance opportunity, I met and had my makeup done by a celebrity makeup artist who has styled and glammed actresses such as Jessica Pimentel from OITNB and touched up models backstage at NYFW for some of our favorite designers.

You might be wondering how in the world I’ve made all of these connections in a span of three years as an 18-21 year old. Sometimes I find myself in awe of it too (heehee). But the best way to get yourself out there and experience all of the amazing opportunities that the world has to offer, is to cleanse your energy and accept the invitations and guidance that may come to you at the most spontaneous times. I’ll talk a lot more about this in an upcoming post, but living mindfully and putting my best self forward has definitely done wonders!

My last encounter was at Caravan Stylist Studio, an invite-only salon and studio for celebrities and influencers alike. They offer services including hair, makeup and nails and are located in the chic Gregory Hotel, just a few blocks from Penn Station. The invite came to me a few months ago, when I had just arrived home from London. Still getting my act together and re-assimilating into a normal routine and setting normal goals, I ended up pushing it off as something I would get to later on.

Fast-forward a few months as I start to get ready to go back to school (and work) and I realize that if my weekdays are so jam packed that I’m worried about if I’ll have time for lunch, there will be very little time for invites such as these! The studio reached out to me a week ago, following up on our previous conversation, and I got the feeling that it was now or never.

Totally worth it. I walked into The Gregory Hotel and up the hidden staircase to the studio, where I was greeted by celebrity makeup artist (and the studio’s Beauty Director), Valerie Star. As Valerie was treating me to a much needed manicure and makeover, we got to chatting about our weeks and I found out that she had started doing some prep-work for upcoming NYFW shows

Overall, the morning was amazing and turned into an afternoon of treating myself to a day in Manhattan on my own. It is incredible how such an exciting and bustling city can cater to your needs while no one (and everyone) watches. I totally loved my nails, Valerie used COLORCLUB nude polish and my makeup was beyond gorgeous… if only I could do that everyday! She used PIXI foundation which was great because it was so light and didn’t melt off me, despite the thick August humidity and Pop Beauty for my eye shadow and liner… I was totally in love with these fun color choices, which led to a fun photo shoot later in the day! x

Back to School Series ’16/’17: New School Year, New Signature Scent

If you have a semi-Type A personality like me, (okay fine, a very Type A personality like me) you know there can be a lot more planning that goes into starting a new school year than just room décor and textbooks. A fun tradition that I started my freshman year of college is that for each school year I’d purchase a new perfume – which would then become my go-to scent for the year. Freshman year was La Vie Est Belle by Lancome, Sophomore Year was Romance by Ralph Lauren and Junior Year was W by Ted Baker London… If you know me personally, you’ll see that it’s a bit eerie (and crazy) how spot on these scents set the tone for each year!

That being said, I’m not quite sure what my latest perfume acquisition means for my upcoming senior year (again, how is it already senior year!?), but I’m totally in love with everything about Ariana Grande’s new fragrance “Sweet Like Candy” and it’s already sitting on my dresser, waiting for move-in day!

This perfume actually just launched last month at Ulta Beauty. It retails between $20 (if you’re just looking for the hair mist) and $59 (for a full-size 3.4 fl oz bottle). I actually have the 1 oz bottle and it’s the perfect size for the school year! What I really love is that the bottle design matches the fragrance. The scent is soft and full of sweet berries and fluffy marshmallow – but there’s a faint hint of floral to balance it out. The bottle mirrors the smell with it’s matte ballet pink dipped exterior, indented like a candy jewel. It’s topped with a fluffy pink “cotton candy” pom pom, bringing together design and fragrance.

As much as I’m enamored with the bottle, it isn’t something I can carry around with me all the time – to class, work, the gym, yoga class, etc. I keep it on my dresser and spritz before I leave in the morning or go out later in the day, but I’ve started using a on-the-go perfume vaporizer and it’s truly a game changer! The Classic HD Travalo can hold up to 5 ml of your favorite fragrance and is TSA approved (YAY). You simply pump your favorite perfume into the vaporizer and you can take it with you anywhere. It’s awesome for travel and post-workout session hangouts. It comes in various designs and colors and retails for just $19.99. It’s not exactly a “dorm” essential, but you’ll definitely use it every day!

I hope you all have a sweet semester! 😉 Stay tuned for more Back to School Series ‘16/’17! P.S. Don’t forget to enter the Invisible Glass Giveaway!!!!
